Grant's (Prince of Air and Darkness) latest (the first in a new series) is a M/M paranormal romance between a military veteran--turned--bodyguard and the eccentric son of a billionaire. Atlas Kinkaid has PTSD and additional strange symptoms after a mysterious attack; Cristian Slava is entitled and mocking. Although Atlas and Cristian find themselves instantly and mutually attracted to each other, neither is happy about it or initially wants to give in to said attraction. Both men have legitimate reasons for keeping certain secrets from each other, and these secrets are presented as a drawn-out mystery for readers to solve. Astute readers might figure them out well before the big reveal, which could make much of the book's first portion more frustrating than tantalizing. Grant's writing starts to truly shine at the halfway point, with an unexpected twist that adds drama and tension in the book's second half. The romance itself focuses significantly on the physical attraction between Cristian and Atlas, leading to a romance that frequently feels underdeveloped and shallow. The story ends on a cliffhanger that will leave fans clamoring for the next book. VERDICT Libraries where the author's other books are popular should consider.--Mary Frances Cely, Richland Lib., SC
